The UK Government released the annual carbon conversion factors used by organisations to calculate their carbon footprint in June.
The factors change each year depending on the UK energy mix with scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions covered. A key factor is for UK Grid Electricity which has seen an overall decreasing trend amongst fluctuations as it decarbonises with the advent of renewable sources of energy instead of fossil based fuels and changes in energy importation. This factor can be used in reporting ‘location-based’ scope 2 electricity emissions.
UK Grid Electricity carbon factors (including the previous four years)
- 2023: 0.207074 kgCO2e/unit
- 2022: 0.193380 kgCO2e/unit
- 2021: 0.21233 kgCO2e/unit
- 2020: 0.23314 kgCO2e/unit
- 2019: 0.2556 kgCO2e/unit
